I like the smell of wine when it’s used in cooking, but you’re right, it doesn’t smell nice when you’re lifting it to your lips. 😛

Aye. Luckily I was with, of all people, my parents and a couple of their friends, so I felt entirely safe, though perhaps more ridiculous. 😉

Gahh, I’m the same way – about wine, I mean. It’s so sophisticated, and not generally associated with alcoholism, and it seems like it would be so good with cheese. But I just can’t get into it. To be fair, I haven’t tried much of it, but I’m stopped by the smell before anything else.

How completely annoying to get the physical shutdown without the buzz. Makes it completely useless as a social lubricant / liquid courage. I imagine it would be a rather scary feeling, too.

The reason I don’t get on with tequila is that it once shut down my physical coordination without the pleasant “buzz” one is supposed to feel (and which I’ve never experienced) and without shutting down any of my mental ability… resulting in my carrying out a normal conversation, but being acutely aware that if I moved, disaster would result. …it was a very unpleasant experience. :\
I haven’t had any similar experiences with vodka, though. I tend to drink White Russians, when I drink anything.

I want to learn to like wine… I guess because I like the idea of wine? I’m not a fan of champagne, though.

How sad about tequila! How do you feel about vodka?

I can’t get past the taste with beer or wine, either (unless it’s Champagne…so maybe I should try other sparkling wines). That’s funny; my brother’s the odd one out in my family. He doesn’t drink – not necessarily because of the taste, but because of the feeling. After his first drink, he said (and I quote) “I shouldn’t feel this good.” Go figure.
