Inspiration Monday: Metaphorphosis

0 Flares Filament.io 0 Flares ×

So the site went down today – that’s what happens when you don’t check the email address where the web host sends the bills. Oh, the joys of self-hosting! How is it that a magazine subscription you never signed up for can auto-renew itself and charge your credit card, but you can’t get your web host to auto-renew, huh?

There must be a button for that somewhere.

Anywho, sorry for the confusion! The good news is, I found my sonic screwdriver (it was in my coat pocket), and made it to the Doctor Who Season 8 premiere in time, wearing a 12-foot scarf in 100 degree weather. And despite all the hype created by my own excitement for Peter Capaldi, he completely delivered. He feels just like the Doctor ought to feel. Some of today’s prompts brought to you by his Illustrious Gallifreyan Self.

If I missed anyone in the confusion who was unable to link (got you, Kate) do please comment below.

Hey, don’t forget to sign up for the super fun that is Voice Week 2014. It starts September 22, and I suggest you start writing now!

Enough. On to the work!

The Rules

There are none. Read the prompts, get inspired, write something. No word count minimum or maximum. You don’t have to include the exact prompt in your piece, and you can interpret the prompt(s) any way you like.

OR

No really; I need rules!

Okay; write 200-500 words on the prompt of your choice. You may either use the prompt as the title of your piece or work it into the body of your piece. You must complete it before 6 pm CST on the Monday following this post.

The Prompts:

METAPHORPHOSIS

PSYCHIC PAPER

BIGGER ON THE INSIDE

SHOP GIRL

SLEEPING IN THE DAYTIME

Want to share your Inspiration Monday piece? Post it on your blog and then give me the link in the comments below (I’ll also love you more if you link back to me); I’ll include a link to your piece in the next Inspiration Monday post. No blog? Email your piece to me at stephanie (at) bekindrewrite (dot) com. (I do reserve the right to NOT link to a piece as stated in my Link Discretion Policy.)

Happy writing!

  1. Good to see you back up and running. Off to ponder the prompts…

  2. Hi Stephanie. I left you a link to my post for Toy Patrol but here it is again:

  3. My friends who have seen the new Dr love him, but didn’t like the overall episode. I’ve yet to see it, but yay for finding your sonic screwdriver!

You are also playing merry hell with my dyslexia. It took me a long time to figure out Metaphorphosis. *rubs eyes*

    • I liked the episode. The plot was simple and recycled from an earlier episode (which they openly referenced), but the nature of a new-Doctor episode wouldn’t allow it to be complicated. The point is to establish the character. Nine fought mannequins, ten fought Christmas trees, eleven fought…was it coma patients? They all tend to be pretty straightforward alien invasions. It’s HOW he fights them that’s important. There were also at least two hints at longer arcs that sound quite promising.

Anyway, I adore him already. He is SO the Doctor. Channeling some of the early Doctors, I think. And Clara had some very impressive moments, acting-wise. Also, I saw it in a special event at my local movie theater, and they included this mini feature in the beginning with Strax giving a rundown of all the Doctors so far. It was HILARIOUS from the Sontaran perspective.

Now to wait another year or so for the whole season to become available on Netflix. I could watch it on BBC America, but they cut stuff out for commercials. 😛

  4. Hey, Steph! You missed me two weeks ago (Uncertain Certainty: http://chriswhitewrites.com/2014/08/21/uncertain-certainty/), but then I missed you last week! This week I’m running out of time…

  5. Also, just a couple of Dr Who prompts there? 😉

  6. Hey Steph,

Glad to see the site’s still alive and the Whovians are enjoying their new leader!

Here’s my response for this week, going off Psychic Paper.

  7. Here’s my submission for this week’s prompt: ‘Miss West Virginia’

    I hope you enjoy. 🙂

  8. Sorry. Unable to participate in Metamorphosis. I’ve been in a lot of pain (knee) and taking pain pills caused me to fall asleep trying to write a story. I did write something but it only makes sense to someone who takes pain pills. I will try to edit it and send it on to you. Naturally it’s Kafkaesque, combining The Trial and the Metamorphosis in modern day. Hopefully I can participate this week. I will be having knee replacement surgery on the 22nd. Lucy

    • I’m terribly sorry to hear that! Perhaps you can save your story for later? I’d be happy to link to it no matter how late it is. : )

Or you can post the pain pill version, and I’ll just drink a margarita right before reading it. XD

Good luck with your surgery! I’ll pray for it to go well and recovery to be swift!
