Inspiration Monday: A Day Late

0 Flares Filament.io 0 Flares ×

Today’s title prompt was purposefully chosen. I completely forgot about InMon yesterday, between Memorial Day, a four-hour drive, and two wild dogs. Whoops. Sorry! But 24 hours late doesn’t make that much difference, right?

O see all the good things to read!

The Rules

There are none. Read the prompts, get inspired, write something. No word count minimum or maximum. You don’t have to include the exact prompt in your piece, and you can interpret the prompt(s) any way you like.

OR

No really; I need rules!

Okay; write 200-500 words on the prompt of your choice. You may either use the prompt as the title of your piece or work it into the body of your piece. You must complete it before 6 pm CST on the Monday following this post.

The Prompts:

A DAY LATE

OASIS

BARKER AND BITER

INVISIBLE NATION

THE WRONG TONE

Want to share your Inspiration Monday piece? Post it on your blog and then give me the link in the comments below (I’ll also love you more if you link back to me); I’ll include a link to your piece in the next Inspiration Monday post. No blog? Email your piece to me at stephanie (at) bekindrewrite (dot) com. (I do reserve the right to NOT link to a piece as stated in my Link Discretion Policy.)

Plus, get the InMon badge for your site here.

Happy writing!

  1. If a writer can not write about, and from strong emotions and deep thoughts, why write, or read for that matter?

    • Because P. G. Wodehouse and his ilk would never, otherwise, have written or been read, and the world would be much poorer for it. 😉

      • With 70 novels and 200 short stories, I suspect he expressed strong emotions and deep thought. It would be impossible to fill that many pages, otherwise. 😉

        • He filled them with joy (which, granted, counts as a strong emotion), humor and lightness and, in his own words “ignore[d] real life altogether.” My point is merely that art serves many purposes, and contrary to what some seem to believe (whether you do or not, I don’t know), I think art is of no less value if its primary, or even solitary purpose is to make people smile and laugh.

We need things that make us think, and things that stir up emotion, but we need things to relieve the tension, too, and make us laugh at the ridiculous in life. If you’re not familiar with Wodehouse and could use a good chuckle, look him up. He is, in my opinion, one of the greatest writers of all time, and he managed it all by writing fluff. 😉

    • I’m curious: what prompted this conversation, Jerry?

  2. Here is mine – http://cognitivereflection.wordpress.com/2014/05/28/inspiration-monday-invisible-nation – it will go live a little later today.

Also I noticed on your text above “and missed her last week”… I am a him lol.

    • Picky, picky. Him. Her. We are all just 0’s and 1’s. 😉

    • Argh. Sorry! But that’s what you get when you pick an ambiguous username – a 50% chance someone will get your gender wrong. I committed the same sin against an InMonster named Oliver whose username was oliveriver. I assumed (probably because I was watching Fringe at the time) that this was Olive River. *sigh* I’m not sure why I got you wrong. Moi? Maybe the French has female connotations for me for some reason???

  3. How could I possibly pick any of the prompts other than “the wrong tone?” I couldn’t. It had to be that one.

  5. Hey Stephanie!

Here’s this week’s prompt, a response to Barker And Biter! Hope y’all haven’t been too offended by my absence…and I hope we’re still continuing that conversation in my comments section 😉
