Inspiration Monday: New Face

Look at all these names! New InMonsters and veterans returned! Also, bought even more books at another library book sale over the weekend, so I’m feeling good, though running out of shelf space.

The Rules

There are none. Read the prompts, get inspired, write something. No word count minimum or maximum. You don’t have to include the exact prompt in your piece, and you can interpret the prompt(s) any way you like.

OR

No really; I need rules!

Okay; write 200-500 words on the prompt of your choice. You may either use the prompt as the title of your piece or work it into the body of your piece. You must complete it before 6 pm CST on the Monday following this post.

The Prompts:

NEW FACE

UP THE DRAIN

COMPLIMENTARY COMPLIMENTS

THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD

DIFFICULTY SWALLOWING

Want to share your Inspiration Monday piece? Post it on your blog and then give me the link in the comments below (I’ll also love you more if you link back to me); I’ll include a link to your piece in the next Inspiration Monday post. No blog? Email your piece to me at stephanie (at) bekindrewrite (dot) com. (I do reserve the right to NOT link to a piece as stated in my Link Discretion Policy.)

Plus, get the InMon badge for your site here.

Happy writing!

  1. So… it’s not as great as when accompanied by the fantastic cartoon illustration it has, but one of my father’s associates once made a cartoon about their sink at work. “Up the drain” reminded me of it:

They said it couldn’t happen. “It’s all a myth,” they said. “Spontaneous generation was disproved over three hundred years ago.” But now we know…
    They lied!

For in this very sink… arising from the muck and slime of countless tumblers, saucers and mugs that were allowed to repose, unwashed and untouched-
A creature that strikes terror in the hearts of the brave and timid alike-

    MONSTRO THE KILLER CRICKET
    is waiting…
    Just out of view…
    Even now!

  2. A cross between fiction and non, I’m not really sure what to make of this post, or if it even makes sense to link up to the prompt (so, feel free to delete this comment if you want): http://thematticuskingdom.wordpress.com/2014/04/01/addiction/

  3. Here is my response to the prompt “Difficulty Swallowing’

  4. Hey…just a note…could you spell my name with a “Y” instead of an “I”? I was willing to let it go last week, but…it is nice to have my name spelled correctly. Thanks!! 🙂
-I’ll try to link up a story a little later on.

    • PS…one day at Starbucks, when they asked me my name, I said, “Bryan with a Y”. I got my cup and it said, “Briany”. No word of a lie 🙂

    • Oh, no! I sincerely apologize, and have fixed the spelling. If it makes you feel any better, I recently called a Brian I work with (and have known for five years) “Bryan” in an email, and he got onto me for it. The ridiculous thing is that his name is in his email address, which means I had to type/select/see the correct spelling to send the email.

Fess up, all you Bry/ians are in a secret club whose mission is to confuse the rest of us by making both spellings equally common.

  5. “An Almost Adult Conversation” stemming from “complimentary compliments.”

  6. Perhaps this is cheating a bit, but I decided to link up an old piece…one of the characters had had plastic surgery, so the “New Face” prompt reminded me of it. http://quest4peas.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/andrew-blake-p-i/

  7. Cruel prompt this week in light of my current condition – I went with something different though!

  8. Hi Stephanie!

Great prompts this week! Here’s my contribution–a bit more important than normal, so I hope it exceeds expectations 🙂
