Inspiration Monday: Sell Time

0 Flares Filament.io 0 Flares ×

After continued computer trouble I determined it was a hardware problem, not a virus, and I bought a new computer (3-5 years is the limit on these things anyway). Is anyone else on Windows 8 yet? It’s awfully different from 7.

Meh. Wouldn’t you rather read about more interesting troubles? Yes, I thought so:

The Rules

There are none. Read the prompts, get inspired, write something. No word count minimum or maximum. You don’t have to include the exact prompt in your piece, and you can interpret the prompt(s) any way you like.

OR

No really; I need rules!

Okay; write 200-500 words on the prompt of your choice. You may either use the prompt as the title of your piece or work it into the body of your piece. You must complete it before 6 pm CST on the Monday following this post.

The Prompts:

SELL TIME

MOMENT IN THE SUN

SOUNDS OF THE STARS

HOW TO BE AN EARTHLING

OFF THE RECORD

Want to share your Inspiration Monday piece? Post it on your blog and link back to today’s post; I’ll include a link to your piece in the next Inspiration Monday post. No blog? Email your piece to me at bekindrewrite (at) yahoo (dot) com. (I do reserve the right to NOT link to a piece as stated in my Link Discretion Policy.)

  1. You are offering the best prompts! I actually started a story based on “The Midwife” last week but it’s STILL GOING. I think I may just include it in the story collection I’m putting together. Ha.

Ok, so anyway, here’s to hoping I’m not a slacker this week. These are excellent prompts!

  2. Windows 7? I’m still on XP! (And yeah, I can see the writing on the screen for my hardware, too…)

I think I’ll try the “How to Be An Earthling” prompt this week. Sounds fun! I’ll let you know when it’s done…

    • Ah, I remember XP. I liked XP. And 7 was not so very different. But 8 doesn’t even have a start button. NO START BUTTON! Just a start screen, and it takes me, like, six clicks to shut it down. How is this better, Microsoft, how??? Anyway, enough ranting.

Looking forward to reading your stuff this week!

  3. Fun! I’m not sure I wrote this as well as I could, but it’s what I’ve got today: http://thematticuskingdom.wordpress.com/2014/01/15/kids-say-the-darndest-things/
    I hope you like it!

  4. My story for this week. I think I was in a silly mood when I wrote this!

  5. I came here from Eleenie’s blog. Glad I found this place 🙂
My computer is 8 years old and I’m going to hang on to it. I recently bought a new laptop. A nice light weight one but after trying to navigate Windows 8, I’ve decided to give it to my granddaughter who is starting junior high this year – that’s if I can convince my daughter to let me do it ~sigh~

    • Eight years is a good lifespan! Is it a laptop? I hear they only last 3-5 years. You may be able to get a disc with Windows XP or 7 to load onto your new laptop instead of 8. I don’t think they cost that much. Or actually you can maybe make a “factory backup” disc using your old computer, then stick it in your new laptop to load the old Operating System. Though I’m sure your granddaughter will need her own computer within the next couple of years. : )

  7. Oh, wow! You offered these prompts just for me!!! Here’s my offering: http://starvingactivist.com/blog/2014/01/17/inspiration-monday-13-january-2014-meets-write-now-17-january-2014-a-moment-in-the-sun/

My son has a laptop with W8 on it. Bless you both. I’ve ditched Windows and am now totally Linux on my netbook and laptop–was tired of the issues I kept having with both 🙁 Am having a blast now!

    • Was the transition from Windows to Linux easy?

      • For us, yes! There is a program called Wine that allows you to run Windows programs (not all, but the ones we use the most have worked swimmingly) and there are comparable programs for the most simple things like Libreoffice for Office Suite. I love it!

        • Hmmm. I’ll keep that in mind. I’m starting to get used to Windows 8 now, though. Found some keyboard shortcuts online that help tremendously.
