I have a song stuck in my head from The Court Jester but I can’t remember the words.

Never mind. Read the latest from the InMonsters:

The Rules

There are none. Read the prompts, get inspired, write something. No word count minimum or maximum. You don’t have to include the exact prompt in your piece, and you can interpret the prompt(s) any way you like.

OR

No really; I need rules!

Okay; write 200-500 words on the prompt of your choice. You may either use the prompt as the title of your piece or work it into the body of your piece. You must complete it before 6 pm CST on the Monday following this post.

  2. When I was a lad I was gloomy and sad
And I was from the day I was born.
When other babes giggled and gurgled and wiggled
    I proudly was loudly forlorn!
My friends and my family looked at me clammily,
    Thought there was something amiss.
When others found various antics hilarious
All I could manage was this!
    *sad noises*
My father, he shouted “he needs to be clouted!
His teeth on a wreath I’ll hand him!”
My mother, she cried as she rushed to my side,
“You’re a brute, and you don’t understand him!”
So they sent for a witch with a terrible twitch
To ask how my future impressed her.
She took one look at me, and she cried “Hehehe!
He? What else could he be but a jester?”
    A jester? A jester. A funny idea, a jester!
No butcher or baker or candle-stick-maker
And me with the look of a fine undertaker
    Impressed her, as a jester?
But where could I learn any comical turn?
It was not on a book on a shelf.
No teacher to take me, to mold me or make me
A merry man, fool or an elf!
But I’m proud to recall that in no time at all
With no other recourses than my own resources
    With firm application and determination
I made a fool of my self!
    *goofydance!*

Probably not the one in your head, but I couldn’t resist. 😉
I’ve got three weeks of leave coming up due to surgery. I only expect to be really out of commission for the first few days (after that I should be up to typing, if only one-handed :P) and after that I hope to do more writing including a return to my blog. Maybe I will watch The Court Jester while I am lazing about.

    • No, it was the one he uses to sort of narrate what’s going on. You know, “the terms, the terms, we must discuss the terms” or something. And “he looks not smart, but in his heart…” I think he got interrupted there. That’s probably why I can’t remember all the words!

      “Handkerchief, handkerheart…”

I hope the surgery’s not on your dominant hand/arm! Yay for more writing. And for Court Jester. I really must watch that again, too.

But now I’ll have THAT song stuck in my head. Along with the Spanish guitar introduction. XD

Did you type all that from memory???

      • Ah, so I got the right scene at least! 😀

Unfortunately, it is on my dominant hand, but obviously I can still type without difficulty. I’m just not allowed to lift anything (not even my brand new nephew!) for three weeks. Yesterday was a crazy day for my clan. Due to medical complications, my poor sister-in-law had to have an emergency c-section WHILE I was in surgery myself. I woke up to my mother asking me “how is Aunt Anne feeling?” O_o
Baby and his mama are ok, though the wee one (he’s just a hair over 3lbs!) will have to stay in the hospital for a while. Anyway, crazy day. My surgery went great, though, and I am feeling remarkably perky.

        “and staaaaaand…”

I would be so proud of myself if I could quote that from memory, but no. I transcribed it from the clip on youtube. Kaye is good at enunciation. Sadly, I wan’t introduced to The Court Jester until I was in college, and by that time my memory was rather used up. 😉

        • Oy, it HAS been a crazy day for you. I hope all is well with you and new mom and baby. Yay for feeling perky despite surgery! That bodes well for getting some writing done whilst in recovery. Season two of Once Upon a Time is finally available on Netflix Instant, so that’s another thing for you to do that maybe I shouldn’t have told you about if you want to be productive. : P If you’re even into that show. I can’t remember if we talked about it?

I’ve been waiting MONTHS for it, but am currently refraining while I write a nice little beast-attacks-at-midnight scene. XD

  3. Wrote one this week! Been a bit quiet on the blogging front the last couple of weeks, am busy writing long stories…
Anyway, here it is, Softly Into the Gloaming http://chriswhitewrites.com/2013/08/30/softly_into_the_gloaming/
