It occured to me this week that my How to Format Your Manuscript post would have been much easier to understand in video form. So I made a video! The sound is a little tinny, but still understandable:

Got questions? Got ideas for other instructional videos? Leave them in the comments!

And for all you NaNoWriMo warriors, here’s a music video from italktosnakes dedicated to the November challenge:

  1. Thanks for thinking of us, Stephanie! Should I watch your video or the music one first? šŸ˜‰

  2. Great formatting video. I learned a different way to establish the header, but I think I like your way better. It seems easier. Thanks!

  3. I am trying to put together a book of 1-4 page short stories (about 85) and am not quite sure how to submit each story. Do I just start with the first story and then title each subsequent story starting on a new page each time? Should I submit anything, “About the author?”
    Thank you for your response.

    • Hi, Ron. Who, or what, are you submitting these stories to? If it is to a literary agent, then, yes, I would say treat each story as a chapter. A new page for each story, start the story 1/3 of the way down the page, double-spaced, 12 pt Times New Roman. I would include a table of contents, but not an author bio. Have an author bio ready, but don’t submit it with the manuscript.

Be sure to check the submission guidelines of the agent (or whomever) you are sending it to! Unsolicited manuscripts are generally not read.

      I hope that helps. : )
