I feel her story is best told in first person because it’s mostly about mysteries, romance, betrayal & broken hearts, but there are things in her world (a small artificial world in the Kuiper Belt) that need to be explained to the reader, but to the characters they are mundane or familiar and go unnoticed.
I’m sure I could get all the details on the page in a natural way, but when the characters make use of, what to them is every day technology, it seems like “new powers as the plot demands” or deus ex machina.
Can you name any good examples of getting around this problem?

I’ve noticed that about Austen, and I love it! I’m not sure what you’d call it. She short of summarizes, or paraphrases, maybe?
