The Rules

There are none. Read the prompts, get inspired, write something. No word count minimum or maximum. You don’t have to include the exact prompt in your piece, and you can interpret the prompt(s) any way you like.

OR

No really; I need rules!

Okay; write 200-500 words on the prompt of your choice. You may either use the prompt as the title of your piece or work it into the body of your piece. You must complete it before 6 pm CST on the Monday following this post.

The Prompts:*

 Is there anybody out there?

Lead role in a cage

I’m comfortably numb

Afraid to care

Rearrange me ’til I’m sane

Want to share your Inspiration Monday piece? Post it on your blog and link back to today’s post; I’ll include a link to your piece in the next Inspiration Monday post. No blog? Email your piece to me at stephanie (at) balcomagency (dot) com.

Happy writing!

 * To celebrate the discovery of an online radio station that plays all Pink Floyd music, all of this week’s prompts are directly from or inspired by Pink Floyd lyrics. If you’ve never read any of those lyrics, I encourage you to look some up (with the disclaimer that there is some language and adult themes). They write like poets.

  1. It’s been one of those weeks! I start with using the wrong prompt & finish by getting my latest story in late!! My apologies.

  3. I’m working on “Rearrange Me Till I’m Sane” I think a thriller is in making. Oh hell, maybe it’s a dark romance (not me…keep moving), Oh! a comedy! Could be, but I doubt it. My sense of humor is very dry and many insist it has to be British. Most don’t get it. Guess I’m not funny. So what is it gonna be? Hang in there with me folks. I’ve only written the 1st sentence, and I HATE THAT one. Must see what forms from here. I think I’ll go sleep on this one. Please, don’t rearrange me while I’m gone. I’ll get it figured out before too long.

  7. I love pink Floyd! And the Beatles too! Anyway, I like lead role in a cage.

    • Ditto. I’ve always loved Pink Floyd, but actually reading through some of their lyrics to choose prompts made me realize just how brilliant they are. And how lacking the vast majority of modern music is.

  11. My latest, but somewhat rushed, little effort. Sadly squeezed into a rather manic working schedule.
