The Rules

There are none. Read the prompts, get inspired, write something. No word count minimum or maximum. You don’t have to include the exact prompt in your piece, and you can interpret the prompt(s) any way you like.

OR

No really; I need rules!

Okay; write 200-500 words on the prompt of your choice. You may either use the prompt as the title of your piece or work it into the body of your piece. You must complete it before6 pm CSTon the Monday following this post.

The Prompts:

A man with no fingerprints

The day the earth stood still*

Atlas shrugged*

The other me

Things only children know

If you want to share your Inspiration Monday piece, post it on your blog and link back to today’s post; I’ll include a link to your piece in the next Inspiration Monday post. No blog? Email your piece to me at stephanie (at) balcomagency (dot) com.

Happy writing!

*Obviously, these are titles from famous works. I wasn’t impressed by either film version of The Day the Earth Stood Still, and I’ve never read Atlas Shrugged, but both phrases fascinate me, and I’m eager to see what you guys do with them. Have at it!

  3. Yes, thank you for this! I don’t want to be first again, but these prompts hit just when I’m sitting here trying to find excuses not to work on my synopsis for my WIP.

So naturally, my imagination takes one and runs with it.

  5. I, too, echo my thanks! Your work in creating unique prompts, and responding is breathing new life into my PostADay 2011 challenge. When you write absolutely everyday, these ARE a breath of fresh air. So, here is my first go at the prompts. Today I used THINGS ONLY CHILDREN KNOW and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL:

  6. Lets see. I’m guessing these prompts have been up about 3 hours, and you’ve already got three responses. Ya think they might be popular? 🙂

I went with The Other Me, but I probably should have stuck with the other me:

  13. This is the first time I have found your site. I love the ideas you are giving and the creativity it inspires so thought I would have a bash. This is my first shot at anything like this and really was a bit of a speed-write so be gentle (but constructive thoughts welcome!)

Based on “A Man with No Fingerprints” (drafted yesterday but only just had the courage to post):

  17. As always, you have provided some seriously thought-provoking prompts. Thank you. Had to think long and hard about each one, but settled with Atlas Shrugged.
